About Ron Furr

Ron Furr, professionally known as DJ Ronnie Ruff, is a respected media executive, DJ, radio host, and cultural advocate whose work has helped redefine urban radio in New England. Based in Massachusetts, Ronnie is the Founder and CEO of New England Mic Check, a nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening communities by amplifying regional voices through music, media, and cultural engagement.

In 2018, Ronnie launched New England Mic Check Radio, making history as the first and only 24-hour commercial urban radio station solely dedicated to New England artists. Under his leadership, the station has grown into a cultural cornerstone—spotlighting independent and emerging talent across Hip-Hop, R&B, Afrobeats, Caribbean, and urban-influenced genres while reaching listeners locally, nationally, and internationally.
Ronnie’s approach goes beyond traditional broadcasting. His programming philosophy centers on authenticity, representation, and community impact. From weekday rotations built on “Smash Songs” to signature weekend programming and the high-energy Weekend Takeover, he curates experiences that reflect the diversity and creativity of New England’s urban culture.
As a host and DJ, Ronnie is also the voice behind the interactive bi-weekly Mega Mash-Up Mix podcast, where he connects directly with audiences through music, conversation, and live engagement. His work extends into live events, artist development, partnerships, and educational opportunities that position music and media as viable career pathways.
